HOT HEADING WITH THE FLST SYSTEM

Sutherland has been providing hot heading presses to bolt makers for over 60 years. In the early days most installations were standard single point gap frame and straight side presses. Some companies who make shorter bolts have spring head tooling and those who make longer bolts have a lower sliding table so long parts can be loaded and unloaded without interference of the upper slide area.

TRADITIONAL GAP FRAME HOT HEADING

Hot Heading Mechanical Press Photo

Photo shows a traditional automated Sutherland MARK 121-ton Gap Frame Press that is fully automated from heating, vision system, part loading, upper spring head attached to slide, lower die set with left to right sliding table and part ejection system.

This configuration works well for shorter bolts and has been running reliably since 2006 in a multi-shift facility making aerospace parts. We have over 15 presses in stock from 66 to 220 ton in single point gap frames

FLST / FRONT LOADING SLIDING TABLE HOT HEADING

Hot Heading Press Front Load Sliding Table System

Hot Heading Straight Side Press

Our FLST / Front Loading Sliding Table Single Point Straight Side presses have taken the place of gap frame presses. Reduced angular frame deflection produces higher definition parts and reduced die wear.

We first designed the lower FLST section of our press frame for one of the largest aerospace bolt makers in the world back in 2006.

The forward off-set of the forward portion of the press frame and bolster allows the sliding table and lower support tube to bring the parts out past the upper slide. This allows part load and part ejection with no interference with the upper slide.

Key advantages of FLST are, less heat loss when moving heated part to tool, better ergonomics for the operator and ease of adding future automation or robots.

I-PRESS Controls by Sutherland Presses

Sutherland presses come with our I-PRESS & Automation control. I-PRESS is the safest and most advanced press control for press room applications.

We have built in standard features that most control builders charge for as options. Tonnage Monitor, Programmable Cams and Die Protection, Job Memory Storage, Multiple Batch Counters, Maintenance Monitor, Over 100 item Fault Monitor, etc..

We partner with the best when it comes to hardware and software platforms, Rockwell AB, Siemens and Omron are amongst our key suppliers.

I-PRESS is easy to learn and easy to navigate making it the most intuitive and friendly control with the shortest learning curve.
